1990 to 2020
Magdeburger Mühlenwerke GmbH was established as a limited liability company in 1990, with the plant located at the river harbor being shuttered. The company was privatized in 1992 with the four partners Christof Engelke, Joachim Engelke, Wolfgang Strycker and Wolfgang Lehmann, and the gradual process of upgrading and expanding the primary location in Magdeburg began. In 1994, the facility had a milling capacity of roughly 85,000 metric tons of grain. Thanks to enormous investments in the systems and equipment, that capacity had risen to approximately 235,000 metric tons 10 years later.
1950 to 1990
The mill located on Halberstädter Strasse in the city district of Sudenburg was made a nationally owned enterprise in 1953. The production facility on Schartaustrasse was designated as Plant I, the former Bergmann plant as Plant II, and the mill in Sudenburg as Plant III. The three plants were able to produce 67,000 metric tons of hard wheat, rye, and rice. As part of the formation of a combine, the mills in Gardelegen and Stendal, plus the Tangermünde soybean and pea processing plant were integrated. The Sudenburg mill was shut down in 1970.
1896 to 1950
Magdeburger Mühlenwerke, Nudel- und Couleur-Fabrik AG, a joint stock corporation, was founded in 1896. The factory consisted of a steam-powered grain mill for wheat and rye. In 1911, work began on the new construction of a vast milling complex, which included buildings for grinding and purification, a granary, plus a grain elevator, boiler room and powerhouse and a steam chimney. The new mill went by the name of Magdeburger Mühlenwerke Aktiengesellschaft Magdeburg and had a milling capacity of 60 metric tons of wheat and 70 metric tons of rye. In 1930, the mill located at the port was bought by Hermann Bergmann in Magdeburg.
After World War II, the publicly traded company was expropriated by the East German government and restructured as a nationally owned enterprise.
